Paragliding in Puerto de la Cruz and north Tenerife

In the north most flying happens in Puerto de la Cruz: a short flight that takes off from the Martiánez cliffs and heads down to the coast. There is less on offer than in the south (5 of 32 listings), no hotel pickup and stricter limits. “From” prices between €140 and €170 (30 October 2026).

The Puerto de la Cruz flight

From meeting point to beach, step by step

Four places worth keeping apart when you book. This is what the coastal-flight listings publish; where one leaves something out, we say so.

1 · Meeting point
In Puerto de la Cruz. Depending on the operator, their paragliding centre or a roundabout with parking whose location is in the listing. There is no hotel pickup: if you stay elsewhere, plan to get there yourself.
2 · Transfer
By van to take-off. One listing puts it at about 10 minutes for the coastal flight.
3 · Take-off
The cliffs above Martiánez beach, running a few steps. If the weather rules out the coast, one operator switches to the Corona Forestal, in the mountains.
4 · Landing
By the beaches of Puerto de la Cruz (one listing names Martiánez beach, near the paragliding centre). Another does not publish the spot. One of them then takes you back to the starting point.

Air time versus total time: the coastal flight is 15–20 minutes according to the listings that publish it, but the whole activity takes 1 to 3 hours with waiting, gear and transfers.

Take-offs in the Teide area: the National Park management plan approved in December 2025 treats the take-off or landing of any aircraft inside the park as incompatible. Some listings still advertise take-off at Izaña or in the National Park, with an alternative site if that is not possible. Before booking, ask the operator where flights take off today. What the rules say.

Rules

Can you take off in Teide National Park?

This is what the rules published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) say, checked again on 30 October 2026:

  • 2002 plan. The previous management plan (Decree 153/2002) generally banned hang-gliding, paragliding and balloon flights in the park, “except paragliding at km 33 of the TF-24 road” (our translation).
  • 2025 plan. The new management plan, approved by Decree 182/2025 (BOC no. 240, 3 December 2025), lists among uses incompatible with the park “the take-off or landing of any type of aircraft within the boundaries of the national park”, except the cases the plan reserves for the park administration (authorised emergency, management, research or maintenance flights). Quote translated by us.
  • 2026 correction. Decree 12/2026 (BOC no. 40, 27 February 2026) removed “upgrading the paragliding take-off area” from the plan’s schedule as a clerical error. In the 2025 plan text we reviewed, that was the only mention of paragliding.

We have not found any decision expressly authorising commercial paragliding inside the park under the new plan. A commercial listing advertising a “Teide take-off” is not proof of such authorisation, and we do not know whether operators currently take off inside or outside its boundaries. That is why those flights carry a notice on this site: confirm the actual take-off site with the operator and what happens if it cannot be used.

North or south? How to decide

Compared with the selected southern flights. If you are not staying near Puerto de la Cruz and are not after this particular flight, it usually makes sense to start with the south.

Before booking in the north

  • Check your weight against each flight’s limit and any surcharge; the per-flight details are in the requirements guide.
  • Look up the meeting point on the listing’s map and how long it takes from where you stay.
  • If the listing advertises a take-off in the Teide area, ask where they take off today and what happens if they cannot.

What to see nearby

The coastal take-off sits above Martiánez beach. If you stay in the area, queverentenerife.es has a guide to Lago Martiánez, with prices and opening times.

Questions about the north

Is there hotel pickup in the north?

Not on the flights we compare. You meet in Puerto de la Cruz (the paragliding centre or a roundabout with parking, depending on the operator) and a van takes you to take-off from there.

Why are weight limits lower in the north?

The listings do not explain it. What they publish is a maximum of 95 to 100 kg on the selected flights, a minimum age of 12 or 13 and, in one, the need to run at take-off. One operator charges €50 more above 85 kg on both its flights.

Can you fly from Teide?

Some listings advertise it, but the National Park management plan approved in December 2025 treats aircraft take-offs and landings inside the park as incompatible. Ask the operator where they take off today before booking.
