Paragliding requirements in Tenerife

No experience is needed: you fly as a passenger with a pilot. What does matter are each activity’s limits, which vary between operators. Here are the actual ranges and a flight-by-flight table.

Flights in the table checked on 30 October 2026; ranges across the 32 catalogue listings from 8 October 2026.

Weight

The published maximum weight ranges from 90 to 120 kg. Southern flights usually set 100 or 110 kg; northern ones 90 to 100 kg; the paratrike and one southern tandem go up to 120 kg. One northern operator charges €50 more above 85 kg on both its flights, and some listings also set a minimum weight for children (15 to 30 kg).

Age

The published minimum age ranges from 3 to 13, and several listings set a maximum of 70 or 75 (one, 95). Minors need consent or a parent or guardian with them, depending on the listing.

Health and mobility

These are the exclusions that appear in the listings (in brackets, how many of the 32 mention them). If a listing does not mention something, that does not mean it is allowed: ask the operator.

  • Pregnancy (21)
  • Reduced mobility (13) · wheelchair users (5)
  • Back problems (5) · heart conditions (3) · epilepsy (3)
  • Scuba diving in the previous 24 hours (3)

One paratrike operator accepts people with reduced mobility if they can move their neck and bend their legs unaided, up to 100 kg and at a specific time. Always ask before booking.

Fitness

At most take-offs you just walk or run a few steps when the pilot tells you. Two northern listings explicitly require good fitness and the ability to run at take-off.

What to wear and bring

  • Closed, comfortable shoes: two listings require them and another lends them.
  • A warm layer: take-off is usually cooler than the coast; several listings include a jacket or windbreaker.
  • Nothing loose in your hands: two listings do not allow your own phone or camera during the flight.
  • Slack in your schedule: if the wind forces a new date, it helps not to fly on the last day of your trip.

Before you book: five checks

Limits are not the same on every activity, so the reference is always the listing of the flight you are booking and, if in doubt, the operator.

  1. Weight and age: look for them under “Not suitable for” and “Important information”. If you are close to the limit, message the operator before paying; two northern flights also add a weight surcharge.
  2. Minors: what consent is required, whether a parent or guardian must be present and whether there is a minimum weight.
  3. Health: if you have any of the conditions listed above, or one the listing does not mention, ask before booking.
  4. Pickup: confirm the area and time; on several southern flights pickup only covers some areas at certain times.
  5. Weather changes: read the cancellation terms the listing shows when you book and leave a spare day.

With that in hand, the price table with each flight’s limits helps you rule out the ones that do not fit.

FAQ

What is the maximum weight for tandem paragliding?

It depends on the flight: in the Tenerife listings we reviewed it ranges from 90 to 120 kg (120 kg is accepted by the three paratrike flights and one southern tandem). The most common limit is 100 kg (half of the listings that state one). One northern operator charges a surcharge above 85 kg.

Can children fly?

Some activities accept young children (the lowest published minimum age is 3) while others require 12 or 13. Several also set a minimum weight. Minors fly with consent or accompanied by a parent or guardian, depending on the listing.

Can I fly if I am pregnant?

Not on the activities that mention it: 21 of the 32 listings explicitly exclude it.
